01:53 - Giancarlo begins in a standing front body lock position with double underhooks and hands locked around the opponent’s waist. Giancarlo prefers this upper-body grip because it allows stronger control after the takedown compared to leg-based takedowns (like singles or doubles), which often lead to scrambles. Upper body attacks are preferred for control. Leg attacks are useful, but the body lock gives better chances to stay on top and maintain control. Often, leg attacks are used just to set up entry to the upper body.

00:01 - When trapping arms from the back, we have to use our top leg to trap the arm which means our opponent will go into a turning escape to defend. We will need to use our arms to stop the turning escape so our legs are free to trap the arm. We can do this by either being heavy on the top shoulder or taking the bottom shoulder off the mat.

00:52 - When outside camping, we do not necessarily have to rush, but eventually we want to get passed the upper body frames of the guard player to get our chest to their to complete the pass. One way to do this is by using your head to pummel. If the guard player takes a cross frame, we can look to pummel our head underneath their forearm to make the cranial shift and pass the guard into side control where we already have a crossface and an underhook. If the guard player takes a straight post on us, we can no longer pummel our head in the same manner. Instead, we can take a reverse collar tie, drop our hand to their near hip, and pummel our head to their hip to beat their frame as we run around to complete the guard pass into north south.
