00:01 - When passing a knee shield half guard, traditionally LIMI would use the weave to smash the guard player's legs together. If the guard player flares their knees, this was LIMI's cue to go under the legs and take a scoop grip because it is easy to get the scoop grip up on your shoulder. However, LIMI watched Kenta do the opposite. Kenta used the weave to split the legs apart instead of smashing the legs together. So when the guard player's knee shield was high, Kenta would use the weave until he got his head inside the knee of the guard player. Now that his head takes over the splitting of the legs, Kenta would remove his weave and pressure forward to drive the defender's knee to their armpit to begin inside camping. If the guard player's knee is low, instead of going into a weave, Kenta used a scoop grip on the leg. The goal of the scoop grip was not to bring the leg up on his shoulder, but to apply reaping pressure to the knee shield leg.

00:00 - When trying to do a knee cut to pass the guard, we are often met with a strong knee shield by the guard player. As the top player, to get around the knee shield, we can post on their shoulder and their shin as we step over their knee shield leg putting ourselves in a butterfly half guard. Then, we switch sides and shuffle our feet as we leg drag their knee shield leg. If at any time the bottom player lets their knee drift away from their chest, we can enter the smash pass position. If they are doing the right thing, keeping their knee to their chest, then we will leg drag.

00:01 - When retaining guard against a passer outside camping with a hip and knee post, LIMI discusses some ideas on dealing with the frame on your near leg. He talks about wanting to go to the far side of the passer's grip to break the grip by pulling it towards you. This gives you inside position once you break their grip and allows you to then transition to an inside bicep tie frame on their arm. From here, you can recover your near leg (low leg) or you can look to recover your outside leg to enter x-guard or k-guard. Regardless of our guard retention strategy, we should be looking to go into offense after we retain our guard.

04:56 - From a full juji gatame, Gordon pummels his torso foot to the tricep of Helena. She tries to swing her legs up to trap his leg, but Gordon tracks her leg with his crossface leg to prevent it. Helena frames to prevent Gordon from reestablishing his crossface leg, but it exposes her elbow. Gordon pushes on her elbow with his foot to transition to a 3-4 juji before going into an x on the far arm.

All Highlights

00:51 - From spider web, Helena transitions to a bottom shoulder sankaku. Gordon does a back roll and begins to stack Helena but she switches to an omoplata to continue her attack.
01:20 - Gordon is able to escape the omoplata by clearing the grip on his hip and throwing his primary arm across the body.
01:49 - Helena is stacking Gordon from the spiderweb position so he reaches through and takes a cross scoop grip on the far leg to break her down to the mat.
02:10 - Gordon is attacking from the arm bar position with a kimura grip. The weakness of this is he is hugging with his bottom arm so the defender can stack. To prevent the stack, Gordon falls to his top shoulder. However, Helena is able to defend by catching the leg and bringing Gordon to his bottom shoulder.
02:52 - With his legged trapped inbetween Helena's leg from spiderweb, Gordon crosses his feet to prevent Helena from splitting his knees apart. He then separates the grip to isolate the arm.
03:09 - From spiderweb, Helena goes into a hitch hiker escape. With the arm on his top hip, Gordon switches hips and spins around the arm to enter a belly down arm bar with Helena on her knees. Helena rolls through and beats Gordon's knee to escape the pillow juji gatame and defend the arm bar.
03:53 - From spiderweb, Helena hugs the far arm of Gordon to initiate her grip break (a good example of double trouble) and extends the arm. Gordon initiates his escape by breaking the cross of Helena's feet. He then throws his elbow to the top hip as his hips run down. He then switches direction as his arm goes to the bottom hip he starts to do a hitch hiker escape. As he comes up to his knees, Helena transitions into an omoplata but Gordon defends and escapes.
05:11 - Gordon is working to break the grip from juji gatame with his feet in an X on the far arm. Helena defends by getting her near knee in as a frame to make space for her far foot to come inside. This traps Gordon's leg and begins to split his knees apart. Gordon falls to his top shoulder to maintain the position a bit longer but Helena frees her arm to escape.
05:51 - Helena is attacking from spiderweb. She breaks the grip and Gordon anchors his hand on his own leg. He uses this to buy himself time to uncross the feet of Helena. Once the feet are uncrossed he allows his arm to be extended before using a back roll to facilitate his hitch hiker escape.
06:49 - From the hip step position, Gordon pummels his other leg in the armpit before removing his hip step to enter a side triangle. They end up in a yoko sankaku.
07:28 - From a yoko sankaku, Helena is defending by bringing her arm close before before swimming it around the triangle ankle of Gordon.
07:51 - Gordon is attacking from a yoko sankaku. Helena is keeping her trapped arm far away so Gordon builds up so he can reach her tricep to adjust the triangle to begin the strangle. Helena is trying to jump over Gordon's body but the kimura grip is preventing it. Helena is forced to tap.
